New York Teacher Certificate Renewal

Once you have your Initial License, you have five (5) years to complete the conditions for a Professional License. This includes mentoring during your first year, plus gaining at least two more years of teaching experience during these five (5) years. You can also reach the Professional level through obtaining a master’s degree in your area of initial licensure from a graduate-level teacher preparation program.

Your Professional License is good indefinitely so long as you maintain the PD standards of the NYDOE during each 5-year block. This includes finishing 175 hours of PD every five (5) years. The New York public school that you are employed at you will approve your PD hours and report them to the DOE. Your school has to also keep a record of your PD hours for seven years in the event of an audit.

Teaching Certificate Reinstatement

If you do not finish 175 hours of PD every 5 years, your teaching license can be revoked. You can request an extension of your license under certain circumstances. If you need to pursue reinstatement, you will be required to pay an expiation fee and complete the necessary PD hours to bring your license back into good status.

NOTE: Make sure to confirm the specific requirements for renewing your license with your state departments or local license-granting authority prior to enrollment. For more information, please visit the New York Department of Education website.

Why Do Teachers Love Us?

I just signed up for two courses: Emotional Intelligence and The Biology of Belief. The instructions are being sent to my office e-mail... I can't wait to review everything tomorrow. I am excited about the courses as they look very interesting! Thank you for this opportunity! I will forward the flyer you sent me to other teacher friends in my area.

"Thank you. I am looking forward to the next course. The independent study format works so well for me.

I'm grateful that it is available."

What Others Are Saying About Our Courses

Amy S. -NY-

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! I wanted you to know I enjoyed the books and coursework very much, and I plan to take further coursework through TLC in the years to come…”

Tandi F. -NY-

“Thank you I learned a few things I'm already trying to use in my classroom, even an old technology teacher can learn a few new tricks.“

John H. -NY-

”I am very impressed with the course material as well as the way the information is causing me to question my own teaching methods. This course will have an influence on my teaching and my students. So, thank you for suggesting it.”

Vicky W. -FL-

"Dear Joseph, thanks for this information. It was a pleasure to complete the work! I have used the research paper a few times in school meetings. Thanks again for offering these services to teachers, especially those of us living in hinterlands"

Whitney D. -CA-

"Thank you for a wonderful experience! I cannot wait to take what I have learned and apply it to my new first grade teaching job. I know I will be able to use both classes to continue improving myself as an educator."

Mary M. -WA-

"I have received all I need to know for now. Thank you so much for expediting these papers for me. I appreciate the quick response and will start work on the course at the end of our final school day today. I'm looking forward to learning more about this subject!"

Theresa. -PA-

"Hello, Dave. In my email to parents, I mentioned my very recent course with you [Designing an Online Classroom]. I had no idea how timely it would be. I do believe that my students and I haven't skipped a beat! Of course, it changes things a fair amount, but I am very glad to already have experience with tools that were fun in the class room but indispensable now!"

Jean W. -MN-

"The course I took was perfect for me as I am trying to write some Health curriculum with two other Health Teachers in the building. Teaching in Special Education and Regular Ed allows me to se subjects from both sides. Instead of doing the two page paper at the end, I choose to write a differentiated lesson plan for my Health class as that will be beneficial to me. Great course! I have recommended to a few others as well. Rubric for grading. My writing assignment corresponds with A/B Grade Area"

Kimberly W. -OH-

"I LOVED the Assertive Discipline text and have already begun to implement many of the aspects - behavior narration, 100% compliance - 100% of the time - in to my classroom."
