California Teacher License Renewal

and Recertification

To renew your Teaching License, one of the following options must be completed:

● Complete a Commission-approved General Education Induction Program. California colleges, universities, counties, districts and other entities offer these. Included within this program are advanced classes in health education, special populations, computer technology and teaching English learners.

● Become certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS). This involves meeting education, experience and examination requirements. See Table 1 on this guide to determine the area in which you must become national board-certified to obtain your California Clear Credential.

To apply for your Clear Credential, submit a Renewal Application along with fees and supporting documents to State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Once you receive your California Clear Credential, it is valid for five (5) years. Although the Commission used to require 150 hours of professional growth to renew a clear credential, clear credentials may now be renewed without verifying any professional or continuing education requirements. Although, some departments, districts, or license-granting authorities may still require them.

NOTE: Make sure to confirm the specific requirements for renewing your license with your state departments, school district, or local license-granting authority prior to enrollment. For more information, please visit the California Department of Education website.

Reinstatement/Recertification of California Teaching License

If your California Teaching Credential is revoked for failing to fulfill your contract duties or for misconduct, you must wait one (1) year from the effective date of your credential to apply for reinstatement. You must submit a letter requesting reinstatement along with an application and appropriate fees.

Teacher's Learning Center offers online professional development and continuing education courses for experienced teachers that meet the California Department of Education requirements for teacher required coursework for license renewal and Teacher Professional Development requirement hours.

What Others Are Saying About Our Courses

Amy S. -CA-

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! I wanted you to know I enjoyed the books and coursework very much, and I plan to take further coursework through TLC in the years to come…”

Tandi F. -CA-

“Thank you I learned a few things I'm already trying to use in my classroom, even an old technology teacher can learn a few new tricks.“

John H. -CA-

”I am very impressed with the course material as well as the way the information is causing me to question my own teaching methods. This course will have an influence on my teaching and my students. So, thank you for suggesting it.”

Vicky W. -FL-

"Dear Joseph, thanks for this information. It was a pleasure to complete the work! I have used the research paper a few times in school meetings. Thanks again for offering these services to teachers, especially those of us living in hinterlands"

Jessica C. -NY-

"Thank you for a wonderful experience! I cannot wait to take what I have learned and apply it to my new first grade teaching job. I know I will be able to use both classes to continue improving myself as an educator."

Mary M. -WA-

"I have received all I need to know for now. Thank you so much for expediting these papers for me. I appreciate the quick response and will start work on the course at the end of our final school day today. I'm looking forward to learning more about this subject!"

Theresa. -PA-

"Hello, Dave. In my email to parents, I mentioned my very recent course with you [Designing an Online Classroom]. I had no idea how timely it would be. I do believe that my students and I haven't skipped a beat! Of course, it changes things a fair amount, but I am very glad to already have experience with tools that were fun in the class room but indispensable now!"

Jean W. -MN-

"The course I took was perfect for me as I am trying to write some Health curriculum with two other Health Teachers in the building. Teaching in Special Education and Regular Ed allows me to se subjects from both sides. Instead of doing the two page paper at the end, I choose to write a differentiated lesson plan for my Health class as that will be beneficial to me. Great course! I have recommended to a few others as well. Rubric for grading. My writing assignment corresponds with A/B Grade Area"

Kimberly W. -CO-

"I LOVED the Assertive Discipline text and have already begun to implement many of the aspects - behavior narration, 100% compliance - 100% of the time - in to my classroom."
