Texas Teacher Certificate Renewal

Once you have your Standard Teaching Certificate, it has a five year renewal period. To renew a standard teacher certificate, classroom teachers must complete 150 CPE hours or Continuing Professional Education (CPE) hours during each five-year period. Administrators and educators holding a professional certificate must complete 200 CPE hours to renew. There is also an Online Renewal Application when you log into your educator certification account and you will be required to pay $22 for the Standard Certificate Renewal Fee.

You must keep written documentation of all of your CPE activities, including provider name, ID number, date and content of activity, and number of clock hours claimed. You may renew your standard certificate six (6) months before its expiration date through the educator certification online system and pay all required fees online as well. You will be required to submit to another criminal background check possibly involving fingerprinting at the time of renewal.

Teaching License Reinstatement

If your standard certificate is not renewed, it is placed on inactive status. To reinstate it, you must pay an additional fee of $40 and meet the CPE hours requirements for renewal. If you are not fulfilling student loan and/or child support payment obligations, your certificate will be revoked. You must pay an extra $50 to reinstate your certificate once you are current in making your payments and have fulfilled the required continuing professional education (CPE) hours.

NOTE: Make sure to confirm the specific TEA requirements for renewing your standard certificate prior to enrollment. For more information about renewal requirements, continuing education requirements/CPE requirements, please visit the Texas Education Agency website.

What Others Are Saying About Our Courses

Amy S. -TX-

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! I wanted you to know I enjoyed the books and coursework very much, and I plan to take further coursework through TLC in the years to come…”

Tandi F. -TX-

“Thank you I learned a few things I'm already trying to use in my classroom, even an old technology teacher can learn a few new tricks.“

John H. -TX-

”I am very impressed with the course material as well as the way the information is causing me to question my own teaching methods. This course will have an influence on my teaching and my students. So, thank you for suggesting it.”

Vicky W. -FL-

"Dear Joseph, thanks for this information. It was a pleasure to complete the work! I have used the research paper a few times in school meetings. Thanks again for offering these services to teachers, especially those of us living in hinterlands"

Whitney D. -CA-

"Thank you for a wonderful experience! I cannot wait to take what I have learned and apply it to my new first grade teaching job. I know I will be able to use both classes to continue improving myself as an educator."

Mary M. -WA-

"I have received all I need to know for now. Thank you so much for expediting these papers for me. I appreciate the quick response and will start work on the course at the end of our final school day today. I'm looking forward to learning more about this subject!"

Theresa. -PA-

"Hello, Dave. In my email to parents, I mentioned my very recent course with you [Designing an Online Classroom]. I had no idea how timely it would be. I do believe that my students and I haven't skipped a beat! Of course, it changes things a fair amount, but I am very glad to already have experience with tools that were fun in the class room but indispensable now!"

Jean W. -MN-

"The course I took was perfect for me as I am trying to write some Health curriculum with two other Health Teachers in the building. Teaching in Special Education and Regular Ed allows me to se subjects from both sides. Instead of doing the two page paper at the end, I choose to write a differentiated lesson plan for my Health class as that will be beneficial to me. Great course! I have recommended to a few others as well. Rubric for grading. My writing assignment corresponds with A/B Grade Area"

Kimberly W. -CO-

"I LOVED the Assertive Discipline text and have already begun to implement many of the aspects - behavior narration, 100% compliance - 100% of the time - in to my classroom."
